NCBP Members Set Their Sights on San
Francisco for
Annual Meeting
NCBP members convened for its 2007
Annual Meeting at the Hilton San
Francisco,
August 9-11. More than 400 officers
of state, local and special-focus
bar associations attended
informative programming and enjoyed
lively social events. At the Friday
opening plenary session, renowned
documentary director/producer
Bill Jersey
used clips from four of
his films to illustrate creative
ways bar leaders can communicate
with the public about the basic
elements of American democracy.
Following the plenary, registrants
attended workshops on anticipating
attacks on the judicial system,
member benefits, public education,
managing partner forums and other
topics of interest. After the
plenary, this year’s recipients of
the ABA E. Smythe Gambrell
Professionalism Awards, the Harrison
Tweed Award, the ABA Partnership
Awards, the NCBF Award for Bar
Foundation Excellence in Public
Service Programming and the NABE
Bolton Award for Outstanding Bar
Leadership were acknowledged at the
NCBP/NABE/NCBF Joint Awards
Luncheon.
In the afternoon, NCBP state bar
members participated in a program
presenting “realities and remedies
for a strong profession,” while
metro bar officers and senior staff
attended the Metropolitan Bar Caucus
Annual Meeting and Plenary Session.
Friday activities ended with the
NCBP/NABE/NCBF Joint Reception at
the Exploratorium, a museum
featuring interactive science and
art exhibits.
Saturday morning programming began
with remarks by then-ABA
President-elect
William
H. Neukom and a report by Laurel
Bellows, chair of the ABA House of
Delegates and past president of the
NCBP. Michael Rubin, past president
of the
Louisiana State Bar Association and
past member of the NCBP Executive
Council, provided another humorous
overview
of today’s hot legal
issues. Following Mr. Rubin’s
presentation,
Chris Crowley,
co-author of the New York Times
best-selling Younger Next Year books
and a retired litigator, explained
how men and women can use reverse
the aging process by incorporating
physical and emotional fitness into
their daily routine.
