NCBP held its 2007 Midyear Meeting
in at the Hyatt Regency Miami Hotel,
February 8-10. Officers of state,
local and special-focus bar
associations attended informative
programming on topics of interest
including judicial independence
under siege, successful bench/bar
partnerships, supporting a bar’s
young lawyers division/section and
practical approaches to diversity.
Festive social events such as the
Metro Bar Caucus Welcome Reception
and the Joint Reception with NABE
and NCBF provided additional
opportunities for bar leaders to
socialize with peers from across the
country.
During the Friday Awards Luncheon,
Houston attorney James B. Sales
received this year’s NCBP Fellows
Award. The award recognizes the
accomplishments of
a past bar president who has
demonstrated a continuing commitment
to leadership, service, the
work
of the organized bar
and the
purposes of the NCBP.
A past
president of the Houston Bar
Association and the State Bar of Texas, Mr. Sales’
47-year career at Fulbright & Jaworski includes
significant work in the areas of legal services for
the poor, dispute resolution, lawyer discipline,
professionalism and lawyer assistance for attorneys
with substance abuse problems and depression.
